The
Grantshouse Horticultural Society's Show 2009

This year's Show was held as usual in the Grantshouse Village Hall on Sunday 23rd August and opened for the public to view the exhibits at 2.00pm.

Although we've enjoyed a few sunny days this year, we've had quite a few wet ones and today was another one of those!

Despite the rain a super array of vegetables and flowers was on display. How do they do it?

With not quite so may entries in the industrial section as last year, nevertheless, some lovely exhibits were there too.

Two wonderful wooden exhibits included a turned clock and a carved green man. (apologies that I didn't get a better photo of them both!)

The children's exhibits are always a delight and show they are just as creative and skilled as the adults in all their sections - look out for the vegetable giraffe  and the potato hedgehog in the slide show! >

Their decorated wellies, paintings, dream catchers and fairy cakes were lovely and the latter looked very tempting indeed; so it was just as well they were displayed under cellophane!

Attending the show was Mr Jim Morton from the Scottish Borders Council.

He was visiting the show to encourage us all and give advice on how to compost our waste and use the bins provided by the council rather than sending our garden and compostable household waste to landfill.

More advice on 'How to Compost at home' and new compost bins are available and can be seen and ordered from - www.wasteawarescotland.org.uk

Delicious home-made scones and refreshing cups of tea or coffee were available for visitors and some wonderful raffle prizes were on show to be won.
Many thanks to the committee and exhibitors for organising and contributing to another very successful show!
