The Quoites Club

The Quoites Club

Quoites is a very ancient game, even featured in Greek Mythology and it is believed to have been first introduced to Britain by the Romans.

Many centuries later the game of Quoites became popular in Scotland and finally arrived in Grantshouse!

During the last Century they probably played the traditional outdoor game known as 'The Old Game' or 'The Long Game' and the Grantshouse Quoites Club soon grew and thrived.
(For a detailed history of Quoites - Click here!)

Unfortunately, the popularity of the game slowly fell into decline and our village Club finally folded in 1955 but some of us would like to start a Quoites Club in Grantshouse once again. In the past our Club had been well known throughout the area, competing with other Clubs for the Trophies and medals awarded to the winning players at matches and tournaments.
(To see the rules of the game please click here!)

We have already purchased a few sets of quoites of different weights and will be creating a pitch area in Grantshouse the near future. We will be inviting everyone to an inaugural meeting of the Quoites Club in the village hall in March to elect officers for the club, decide the games we will play and when the first meet will be, etc.

Everyone, including children, will be welcome to join us whether they are an experienced player or just someone who would like to learn more about the game and help us reform the Grantshouse Club. If you are interested, please contact: Peter or Vicky Hammond at Brockholes - Tel: 01361-850280 or Mel Watkinson - Tel: 0784-008-2188

More information will be published here as soon as we start to achieve our aims!
