The Farms
Welcome to South Penmanshiel!
John Mack farms a hundred and fifty four acres on the hilltop at South Penmanshiel.

Sixty acres is rough moorland on which he runs his hardy Scotch Blackface ewes.

Bred to Blue faced Leicester rams, they produce his closed flock of Mules, for breeding to his Suffolk stud rams or Texels.

He takes three lambings from his ewes and purchases replacement stud rams, also after three years.

John breeds his own unregistered pure Suffolks, retaining the tups for home use and any surplus being available for private sale, as are the surplus Mule ewes. They are much sought after and usually sold locally.

Apart from 'buying in' his replacement stud rams, John's is a closed flock and he has recently joined the organic farming scheme.

John's stock always seem to be in excellent condition and very easy to handle, which is not surprising as he's a very experienced careful stockman.

These qualities are well known by local farmers and John is frequently in demand for his assistance with lambing, haymaking, silage, harvesting and all the usual seasonal work as well as for his fencing skills!

If you have a job that needs doing or require well bred and carefully reared livestock, give John a call on -
