First
of all, my apologies for the late arrival of this Newsletter due
in part to the fact that I have not been too well over the
winter months! I’ve enjoyed writing these pages since June
2006 but the time has come to hand the reins over to someone
else!
Angie
Robinson, who started the Grantshouse Newsletter in 2002, has
very kindly agreed to take over once again as your scribe. To
make her task a little easier in future, the Newsletter will be
published quarterly instead of bi-monthly. Please let her know
if you are organising any village event or arranging any of the
Village Club’s events or schedules so that they can be
included in the Newsletter for those who do not have access to
the Internet. Tel: 01361-850321
I will
still be maintaining the village web site, www.grantshouse.info
and including the Newsletter page and information about the
various village Club’s events/schedules, just so long as you
let me know when and where they are too! Tel:01361-850324
Thank
you to all my readers over the past few years and here’s
wishing good luck to Angie and the Newsletter and a very
‘Happy Easter’ to everyone! - JB.Ed.
The
Walking Club
–
The
‘new’ Grantshouse Walking Club is starting in the Village on
Tuesday 20th April and anyone is welcome to join!
Meeting at the Village Hall at 1.00pm, the first walk will be
from Grantshouse to Houndwood, via Renton and Greenwood. It
sounds like fun and a good way to not only keep fit and healthy
but will give us the chance to chat to friends on the way, as
well as noticing the plants, flowers and wildlife, that are so
often missed as we all dash about in our cars!
The
Grantshouse Community Trust - After the long, hard winter we held our first committee meeting
since last year on 16th March. We welcomed TK Dyce
as a new member of our committee and then set about deciding
on future plans. If anyone would like to become involved and
help the Community Trust please contact me! Tel: 01361-850324 Village
Spring Clean – We
have registered Grantshouse & Houndwood to take part in
the ‘Keep Scotland Beautiful Campaign’ again this year. We
did very well last year collecting 32 bags of rubbish from
Grantshouse and the surrounding area! We are hoping to do even
better this year and cover the areas at Dean Foot and
Houndwood too. We
will meet at 10.00am at Harelawside on Saturday 17th
April and at 10.00am at the Grantshouse Inn on Sunday 18th
with a break for lunch on both days at 12noon. Angie will
kindly be providing soup and sandwiches for all our volunteers
at the pub! Bags for the rubbish collected will be provided
and yellow tabards for the volunteers to wear and be seen! We
will also have some littler picking sticks available but would
ask volunteers to bring their own rubber gloves. Please do try
to spare some time and volunteer to help us. As you know,
‘Many hands make light work’ and it can also be very
rewarding and lots of fun! The
Community Garden and Play Park - Meg
Wyse has worked hard to try to keep the garden tidy over the
past few months but it’s in dire need of some more TLC and
replanting. The Trust will be tackling that task very soon in
the hope that it will be much improved in appearance this
summer. Jumble
Sale –
Plans are afoot to organize another Jumble Sale in April so
watch the Message and notice boards for more details soon!
Donations of your Jumble will be gratefully received and can
be delivered to me at The Pavilion, Renton, Grantshouse. Or if
you would like it collected, please contact me on Tel:
