The Wind Farms

Our villages, Grantshouse and Houndwood, are close to the North Sea and near to the Lammermuir Hills in the Scottish Borders.

These are among the areas considered best suited to position wind turbines to generate  electricity.

Predicted view of Penmanshiel Wind Farm from the Duns to Grantshouse Road.

Some turbine installations will be privately owned and others form part of large commercial wind farms. Owners of suitable land can apply for planning permission to have a wind turbine installed to generate their own electricity and should recoup their installation costs over time, as they can sell and redirect any surplus power generated to the National Grid.

It is anticipated that developers of large commercial wind farms will contribute funding towards Community Benefits to be available for those living close by.
Advice and a variety of suggestions for community projects to be considered can be found on the Centre for Sustainable Energy's web site if you click the logo here >
